講 演 :
Membrane Innovation in Micro, Mini and Macro Systems

 The last decade has seen rapid innovation in membrane design, material and applications driven by the growing demand for cleaner and more energy efficient processes. Large scale membrane processes are being used for desalination, water treatment and purification as well as in gas and chemical separations and reactions. Membrane reactors, bioreactors and catalytic reactors have been demonstrated to have advantages in being an efficient and adaptable technology for power generation to clean water production that are crucial elements in climate change adaptation.
    Membranes in mini and micro systems are becoming important research topic. Miniaturization offer unprecedented opportunity to manipulate the membrane architecture to create synergy in form and function and create new membrane properties. This approach has been used to create more sensitive sensor devices, new MEMs and bio-MEMs and portable power generating devices such as fuel cells and artificial leafs. This talk attempts to present these exciting advances in membrane technology from micro-to-macro scale.
